    Ag Science Biology

A 10 unit lab science course designed for the college-bound student.  The course emphasizes detailed knowledge of the biological principles of the following areas: molecular and cellular aspects of living things, structure and function of agricultural plants and animals, genetics, physiology, plant and animal diversity and principles of classification, ecological relationships, and animal behavior. FFA instruction and participation, and student projects (Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs) are requirements of the class.  Fulfills the 10-credit life science requirement for high school graduation and one year of the two year laboratory science requirement for admission to the UC/CSU system (A – G Requirements).

    Introduction to Agri-Science

A 10 unit lab science course designed for the college-bound student.  A 10 unit introductory course in agriculture.  It relates various practices of agriculture to many areas of science including biological, earth and physical science.  It covers basic agricultural research methods, an overview of California agriculture, careers in agriculture and basic plant and animal science.  FFA instruction and participation, and student projects (Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs) are requirements of the class.  The goal of the course is to provide students with basic background knowledge and skills necessary to enroll in General Horticulture, Agriculture Leadership, Animal Science, or Plant and Soil Science.  Fulfills a 10 credit high school graduation requirement as an elective and the one year of the advanced elective requirement for admission to the UC/CSU system (A – G Requirements).

    Agricultural Mechanics

A 10 unit course designed for students interested in a career in Mechanics or Construction.  The course will include subjects such as welding, woodworking, plumbing, PVC and irrigation, masonry, electrical, surveying, concrete, auto mechanics and units of measurements.  The course will also include career exploration including guest speakers.  Students will have the opportunity to gain work experience and build projects. Course may be repeated.  Fulfills a 10 credit high school graduation requirement as an elective.

    Plant & Soil Science

A 10 unit class in agriculture.  The course is designed to provide the student with the theories and principles related to Plant and Soil Science.  In the class, students will learn about the structure, growth processes, propagation, physiology, growth media, biological competitors, and post harvest factors of food, fiber, and plants. This course is intended to successfully prepare students who plan on majoring in agriculture science at a four-year college or university. FFA instruction and participation, and student projects (Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs) are requirements of the class. This class is articulated with the Agriculture program at the College of the Sequoias.  Students who satisfactorily complete the class earn three COS units towards a certificate of completion in Plant Science.  Fulfills a 10 credit high school graduation requirement as an elective and the one year of the advanced elective requirement for admission to the UC/CSU system (A – G Requirements).

    General Horticulture

A 10 unit introductory course in horticulture and related practices. The course focuses on the production and management of plants for food and landscape purposes.  It covers nursery management, and basic landscape maintenance.  The goals of the course are to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for an entry-level position in the horticulture industry, and to provide the students with the background knowledge and practice necessary for the Landscape Maintenance and Design class. FFA instruction and participation, and student projects (Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs) are required components of the class. This class is articulated with the Agriculture program at the College of the Sequoias. Students who satisfactorily complete the class earn three COS units towards a certificate of completion in Horticulture. Fulfills a 10 credit high school graduation requirement as an elective and the one year of the advanced elective requirement for admission to the UC/CSU system (A – G Requirements). Pre-requisite: Ag Biology and Introduction to Agri-science

    Landscape Maintenance & Design

A 10 unit class that focuses on the practices and techniques of fertilizing, pinching, irrigating, weeding, pruning, training and transplanting used to maintain existing landscapes. It also covers basic landscape design, and basic plant anatomy and physiology as they relate to plants used in the landscape. The goals of the course are to provide the students with the basic knowledge and skills required for an entry-level position in Landscape Maintenance and the background knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level college course in Landscape or Horticulture. FFA Participation and student projects (Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs) are requirements of the class. Fulfills a 10 credit high school graduation requirement as an elective and the one year of the advanced elective requirement for admission to the UC/CSU system (A – G Requirements).  Pre-requisite: General Horticulture
