    Independent Projects in Art

A 10 unit college preparatory follow-on course to Studio Art, intended to be a course of art instruction for students in grades 10-12 who have demonstrated sufficient competency, maturity, and responsibility to pursue largely self-guided instruction. The course will build upon the art concepts, media, and experiences of the Foundations of Visual Art and the Studio Art courses.  Projects in the class will require research and conceptualization of the artwork and investigation of the media or an aspect of art selected by the student.  Work completed in this course should be considered the basis for an Advanced Placement Studio Art portfolio.  The student will be expected to provide the instructor with a written statement of intent, describing the aspect of art to be pursued.  The instructor and student will then determine the desired outcome of the term’s work for assessment purposes.  Students will be expected to present, in writing, an assessment of their progress and the result of their investigation. Reference to pertinent examples from art history should be part of the student’s self-assessment.  This course is essentially designed to be an independent study for students enrolled, while scheduled into another existing art class.  Pre-requisite:  Instructor permission
