A 10 unit college preparatory course teaching guitar essentials to students with no prior experience. 

Areas covered include music reading, left and right hand technique, chords, tuning, tablature, and other general music fundamentals. Finger picking, playing in groups, and care of the guitar will also be learned. Students will be required to play in occasional night concerts. Full fills the 10 credit high school graduation requirement in the Arts. No prerequisite. 

 

 

Advanced Guitar 

 

Advanced Guitar: A 10 unit college preparatory course that is an extension of guitarist taught leading to an advanced level of guitar performance.

Areas covered include learning notation in all guitar positions, sight reading six strings and chordal music, jazz chords, major, minor, and harmonic scales,brief improvisation, and two/three part composition.  Learning classic pieces of solo guitar repertoire by Tarrega, Sor, etc. will be highly emphasized. Students will perform highly challenging ensemble works in 2, 3, and 4parts.  Students are required to play in occasional night concerts.  Fulfills the 10 credit high school graduation requirement in the Arts.  Pre-requisite: Guitar with a grade of A or Instructor Approval.
